Civic Leadership Academy: Public finance in a dynamic environment

The School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) at UC San Diego invites San Diego professionals involved in public service and policymaking to a professional development opportunity with the Civic Leadership Academy. The aim is to provide access to UC San Diego’s faculty and research expertise to address current and challenging topics for San Diego area civic leaders. The Academy will have two or three sessions every year and it is free to attend.

Join us as we understand best practices in public finance and the challenge of public pensions and how it will impact future financial planning.

Speakers and Topics:

• William Glasgall, Senior Vice President at the State and Local Initiatives for the Volcker Alliance, will speak on emerging best practices for state and local financial management
• Alex Gelber, Associate Professor at GPS and former Acting Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy and Acting Chief Economist at the U.S. Treasury, will speak on the challenge of public pensions
• Moderated by: Terra Lawson Remer, former senior advisor, U.S. Department of Treasury and research fellow, Center for Global Transformation, GPS

Parking: There is a lot of paid street parking nearby. There is also a paid parking lot on 8th Ave., between Market St. and Island Ave. (approximate cost is $10-$20). If you would like your parking validated, the front desk can validate your ticket if you park at the 6th and K Parkade (289 6th Ave., San Diego, CA 92101). There is also some metered parking on the street (recommended due to Parkade overflow during business hours). Exit the 6th & K Parkade at 7th Ave. and head north then turn right at J St. and then turn left at 8th Ave. The entrance to the Sempra Energy lobby will be on your left.
